Winter Inspiration

The winter can have us hiding indoors, however it can be a great time to get outside and capture some beautiful, unique images. Below are a few ideas to help inspire you:

• A blanket of fresh white snow can lend a calm, quiet feeling to your scene. Start with a wide angle to show the landscape and then get closer to showcase the details within the landscape
• Another gorgeous scene is when everything is covered in frost. You can do the same as mentioned above for more variety in your images.
• With the sun lower in the sky it can be easier to get out during golden hour when the light can be amazing. Another bonus is the long shadows that the low sun can create. 
• Macro and/or abstract images can also be fun with subjects such as ice, snowflakes, frost, etc.
• Think about color themes that go along with winter (ie. red for December, blue for January, white for February, etc).
• Waterfalls can also be more unique in the winter months. Depending on the temperature they may be flowing, partly frozen or frozen solid. Again remember to get closer or zoom in to get some closeups.

Remember your camera will underexpose with all the white in the scene so be sure to overexpose by 1-2 stops to keep it looking white instead of gray.
